sew, mama, sew! giveaway day

crochet recycled vase

* * * * * Congratulations to the giveaway winner Shana Putnam! * * * * *

Sew, Mama, Sew! Giveaway Day is one of my favorite times of year. I love participating: both in the giving away part and the entering for giveaways part.

If you are new to my blog, let me tell you a little bit about this vase. I love to use recycled goods in my work. I’ve made a few of these. The plastic container has been rescued from my very own recycle bin. The yarn is from the big spool of wool. I talk about it a lot. It’s a big spool.

You don’t have to do anything fancy to enter my giveaway — just leave a comment on this post. I’d love it if you follow my rss feed or follow me over on my facebook page. I’d also love to hear about your handmade holiday plans. Are you making anything special?

Don’t forget to visit Sew, Mama, Sew! for tons of other great giveaways. (They’ll be posted on Monday morning.)

Mine will close Midnight, Central Time, December 17th. I’ll ship internationally, so everyone is welcome to enter!

  1. I am kind of a stalker….following you on FB…and IRL! lol The vase looks great! That is/was one big spool. Wow!

  2. Hey Julie! I follow you on FB. I’ve been knitting chemo caps for a dear friend. I’m taking some time out from that to do a three button wrap for my daughter for Christmas.
Hope all is well. Have a great holiday season!

  3. I’m an RSS reader checking in! :)

My daughter and I are making kirigami snowflakes out of felt and then sticking sparkly gems on them…pretty!! Well, we think so!! :)

  4. Hi, how cute that vase is! I really like your ideas and I read them via rss feed.
I’ve made our Christmas tree out of bamboo with off cuts from my pear tree tied on to create an open lattice. Dehydrated orange slices are hung up in the lattice diamonds and I crocheted 12 glass baubles to hang along the bottom.

  5. That is one giant spool of wool ;)

I have all my presents made and packaged except two…that won’t get opened for 2 weeks, so I feel that I have tons of time for them!

  6. OK Sara, enough of the presents being done, I’m thinking she should come over (or I can deliver) yet another batch of unfinish-ery that I have to do before the big day.

One includes a quilt out of squares my dad’s mom hand stitched. That’s his gift this year. I should probably start, the fabric won’t cut itself!

Also wondering how much of a dent you put into that big spool of yarn. LOL!

  7. I am totally impressed by your work! I like using recycled materials whenever I can….I made some bags for wrapping gifts in this year…I also made a couple of embroideries in frames for gifts…one for my sister says “bloom where you are planted” which is my alltime favorite quote. Thanks!

  8. This vase is lovely! I have been doing some holiday sewing, you can see some on my blog already and some of the posts will have to wait. I’ve crocheted some scarfs, sewed some handbags and potholder sets.

Stop by my blog to enter my giveaway, if you haven’t already!

  9. this is so cute!! i love it.

i am currently taming down my handmade plans. there is little time left (we celebrate solstice) and i want to enjoy it rather than try to make, make, make frantically until the end. still in the works are a felt poinsetta hairband and a pair of leg warmers for my daughter’s holiday performance thursday.

  10. Love your site. I strive for a handmade holiday. If I don’t make it, I purchase from another crafter. This year, I am making an angel mobile for my oldest daughter to hang above her bed to help her have good dreams. For my youngest I am making a mitten and wood animals story toy. Both projects I found in Living Craft magazine.

  11. I follow you on FB already. :) I’m going to be making the newly married couple in my family a set of dolls.

  12. What I love about SMS giveaways is that you get to stumble upon new blogs! I’ll have to make a return visit to your blog. This year, sad to admit it, has seen little on the crafting horizon except for cooking (my daughter has told me that my blog has turned into a food blog). This vase is wonderful – great colors and the fact that you’re using recycled items is great. What we all should be doing more and more.

  13. I love those crocheted vases! The only thing I’ve handmade this Christmas is cards – 44 to be exact. Been too busy crocheting baby blankets for the needy in the Philippines.

  14. I love your vases. I have been an email subscriber of your blog for quite sometime and have made several of your crochet patterns – crochet is my passion. Thanks for the giveaway.

  15. Love it!!! Follow you on facebook. I have a very ambitious list for my handmade Christmas this year — apron, 4 Alabama Stitch shirts, softies, and a ring. : )

  16. Are you serious? That vase is about the coolest thing I’ve seen in forever and it’s totally me! I’ve already got the perfect place to put this if it comes to live at my house!

  17. I’m a follower on the rss feed. I love seeing what you’re up to. This Christmas I’ve been busy knitting fingerless gloves and hats for everybody. I’ve also sewn some small bags for friends and family.

  18. Thanks for the giveaway. I am making a loopy travel blanket for my youngest, and perhaps a few other things that I haven’t decided on yet!

  19. I made an ornament for my son. It is his second Christmas. Thanks for the chance to win. Happy Christmas. stephspitzer at gmail.

  20. Wow, that’s quite a spool of wool! Love the vase, it would look great on my desk. For Christmas I have made lip balm, wool dryer balls and will be making linen sprays and food gifts. Thanks for the giveaway!

  21. This is a very cool vase. I’m knitting some things that won’t get done. I’m a very slow person. Thank you for the giveaway!

  22. What an adorable idea for a vase! Love it.

I’m just finishing up a quilt for my husband. He’s still got a Garfield twin sheet from when he was a child. I’m adding fabric to make it into an adult-sized quilt so he can sleep under it again. :)

  23. Thank you for the giveaway. I haven’t had time to make anything this year. Santa will be lucky if we have time to make cookies, but I have grand plans for next year!
