soccer knitting

knitting boheme baby sweater at soccer practice

The first few weeks of September always make me a little blue. Even though it’s technically still summer for a few more days, my Fall allergies have been in high gear for awhile. It’s frustrating because this is my favorite time of year. I love the crisp mornings and cool evenings. I don’t love being a snifflely, sneezey zombie.

It takes a few weeks before I snap out of it. The first frost won’t be here until next month and there are far too many things to enjoy outside. Ragweed doesn’t care if I’m sitting at my daughter’s soccer practice or running up to the grocery store for milk. I can’t escape it. Once I accept it, my mood improves.

Last weekend the weather was beautiful. The air was cool, but the sun was warm. The sky was bright blue and cloudless. I brought a chair and my knitting and soaked in the beauty of Mother Nature. It was definitely worth it.

change is in the air

autumn leaves

There’s a tree in my neighborhood that’s starting to change colors. Slowly, branch by branch, its leaves are turning red. Most of the tree is still a brilliant, summery green, but you can tell change is slowly coming. My website feels a little bit like this tree today.

Over the weekend I merged julie-bird.com with this site. I’m guessing most of you wouldn’t have even noticed if the rss feed hadn’t sent out one of my posts from a few weeks ago. (Seems feedburner is easily confused by change.)

Like the big green tree outside my window, most of the site remains unchanged. However, there are a few exciting things to note:

  • There’s finally a navigation bar at the top!
  • Tutorials have their very own page (with photos to come soon)!
  • Images are bigger! Tutorial photos are easier to see!

You may notice little changes in the coming months. I’ll let you know if I add anything terribly exciting. Right now, I’m just happy to have a little more elbow room to organize my creative thoughts.

Are the leaves starting to change in your part of the world? Real or metaphorical, share in the comments!

hello november!

early morning frost

I don’t have any crafty pictures today, so I thought I’d share one that I took of the morning frost at the park. It’s got me thinking about the cold weather that’s almost upon us. (Here’s a larger size so you can see the ice crystals.)

My daughter goes on a hike at nature school, so we can’t simply run from the car to the door. Well, I can, but she’s got to dress for the weather. I have to pull out her hat and mittens and see if they still fit.

I’m mending one of my favorite sweaters that has worn elbows. I’m taking pictures and will share all of the steps with you this week.

I made a big pot of soup and an apple crisp this weekend. I also spent a lot of time under my one of my favorite blankets.

I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving and making holiday gift lists.

Today I voted. Tomorrow I will turn the phone ringer back on.
