12.17.03 O!
Yes, this is the Lincoln Blog, but here
is a really great story about Omaha. Thanks to Teresa for the
link.
12.13.03 Snow, deer meat, and all that jazz
It's been a busy week. Most of our presents have been made or
purchased, wrapped, and sent back East. The snow is still hanging
around, and we got another dusting last night. Total accumulation
was between 7-10 inches. It's hard to be certain because of the
wind and the drifts. Some of the main roads and most side roads
and parking lots are still covered with ice and snow. They don't
plow much around here, and use less salt and sand on the roads.
While I am grateful for my snow tires so I can get around, T is
having fun trying to whip the car around at almost every turn,
and is constantly on the lookout for parking lots in which to
do donuts. According to local residents, on a scale of 1-10, the
amount of snow we got was about a 3 and the wind was about a 7.
Pleasantville
in the snow and wind.
Wednesday night we ventured downtown to Chipotle. The burritos
were good. Familiar. The restaurant itself was the smallest Chipotle
we've visited. Friday night we went to "Christmas...and all
that jazz" with the Masts at The
First Evangelical Free Church in Lincoln. It was really nice.
We found it hard to sing along, though, because the songs were
just a little too different than what we are used to singing.
The jazz musicians were fabulous, and it really put us in the
Christmas spirit.
Today we ventured east of Lincoln to Elmwood.
There isn't much past the city limits; mostly farms and prairie.
Elmwood has a population of 668 (I wonder how often they update
that sign?) with one block of businesses. The purpose of the trip
was to visit the Elmwood Meat Plant. One of T's coworkers gave
us some deer meat, (he hunts almost every weekend and has three
freezers filled with meat!) and we are having it made into jerky,
polish sausage, and jalepeno and chedder summer sausage. I will
be the first to admit that I was not too excited to get a bunch
of deer jerky, but after tasting it, I have to say it's very good.
We're experiencing all sorts of new things out here in the Heartland!
12.09.03 Snow!
We're getting snow today. And lots of wind. I tried to take a
picture of the snow blowing sideways, but the camera keeps freezing
the flakes. We're only getting 3-5 inches, but it's pretty.
12.07.03 Fe Fi Fo Yum
We are getting a Chipotle
in downtown Lincoln. I am so excited. (Check out their web site.
Very cool and nicely designed.)
12.06.03 Cold
How cold is it, you ask? The frost on the cars, grass and trees
did not disappear until well after Noon. Although, the frost on
the car was quite scrapable (yes, I made that word up). Not like
the glue back East where you have to dig in with both arms to
scrape it off.
12.05.03 Snow Back East
MARC
trains were experiencing minor snow related delays, officials
said, although all trains were scheduled to operate. Camden
Line trains experienced 10 to 15 minute delays due to frozen switches
and freight traffic in the Savage area. Hmm... frozen switches.
What a surprise. "Minor snow related delays." Yeah,
right. Don't miss that.
12.04.03 Rumors
Rumors
of Spurrier sightings in Lincoln have been rampant since Frank
Solich was fired over the weekend. Very interesting.
12.02.03 Sneak Preview
The Fall Lincoln Update will go out in the next few days (inebraska.com
is having problems with its email server). But you can catch a
sneak preview here. The permanent link
is on the right under Photo Albums. Enjoy!
If you have emailed me lately, it may take me awhile to get back
to you, if I get your email at all. You may want to give me a
call if it's important.
12.01.03 Snow Globe
I scare myself that I find the shrieking of these little people
so much fun that I keep shaking their little
world over and over.
