8.29.05 — Katrina
There's not much going on here today. Our eyes are on Katrina. We're watching the news and keeping tabs with this blog.

8.27.05 — Airborne Food Part 2
I just stumbled across the picture of Der Weiner Schlinger that I had wanted to post a few days ago.

8.26.05 — Bird is back
We're not sure where Bird went. Did it go South for winter and get lost on its way home? We looked everywhere--upstairs, downstairs, in closets, under the couch--Bird was gone.

Then one day Bird was back. Just like that. Oh, the joy! Oh, the games! There was Stalking Bird, Pouncing on Bird, Rolling around with Bird and Batting Bird. And when Bird retreats under the couch for a break, there's a lot of huffing and puffing and whining. Bird! Bird! Bird! You see, it's time for a nap, and we also have to Nap with Bird.

8.25.05 — Enjoy the silence
Whenever we go for a walk during the day, I am amazed at how quiet it is. When I was little, I used to think that crickets slept during the day and chirped only when the sun went down. When I got older, someone filled me in that it is the noise of our daily lives that drowns out the sound during the day. It's only because it is more quiet at night that we can hear them.

Well, it's pretty quiet around here during the day, and the sounds of crickets and other bugs (you know, the buzzy sounding kind) are loud! It's just amazing to me the contrast in my life over the past two years from working in a hustling, bustling city vs. next to corn fields and prairie.

This Google picture is a few years old. Our development and the one across the street is only at dirt road stage here. But the rest is pretty much the same.

Do you wish you could hear more of the silence? You know, they are giving away land in the Heartland right now. Really.

8.24.05 — Airborne food
Is anyone outside of Nebraska watching Tommy Lee Goes to College? Last night as we watched I wondered what other people thought of the Der Veiner Schlinger. It's odd. People in Nebraska are big on throwing food at spectators. At Husker games the Der Veiner Schlinger shoots hot dogs into the stands (red hot dogs, of course). At the Salt Dogs game they threw ice cream sandwiches at us. Even at the Czech Festival, folks in the parade threw candy at the kids on the street. Lots of candy. Those kids wound up with a stash bigger than from Halloween. I thought we had a picture of the Der Veiner Schlinger for your viewing pleasure, but alas, we don't. You can see Husker pictures in our archive photo album. And here is a picture of T with Herbie Husker.

Bathing Cats, Flying Cats and Daily Oliver.

8.06.05 — Driving again
We are helping out with the Drive for the Cure again this year*, but we are only shuttling cars to Omaha. I'm glad there is another Drive for the Cure event in Nebraska, but I'm bummed that I won't get to log as many miles as I did driving to Des Moines last year. T will be helping out at the BMW CCA MVC tent this year and will spend most of the day up there. I'll be heading up around 5 pm. (You should really check out their website. T just finished doing a major overhaul of it. It looks great!)

*Update on our Drive for Nancy: She is cancer free and doing well!

Aside from our trip to Indy, driving to Omaha is the only distance we've traveled this summer. Our friends and family, however, have been all over the place. Below are some postcards that we've recently received in the mail. I am most impressed with the one that came all the way from France without our address. It listed our street intersection and housing development instead.

Just so you know, I collect postcards from all over. It doesn't matter if you are visiting some big exotic city or small town in the country. Drop a postcard in the mail to me. I'll add it to my collection and post it here on the blog.
